The talk
What looks like an immense chamber might be the inside of a violin. A seemingly endless passageway could belong to a piano.
“Architecture in Music” reveals the hidden interiors of musical instruments, turning small spaces into worlds of unexpected scale. The photographs expose craftsmanship, old repairs, textures and structures that normally stay out of sight.
Charles works with specialist medical endoscopes, carefully controlled light, and techniques that combine multiple exposures for depth and detail, producing images that challenge our sense of perspective. For photographers, it’s an invitation to reconsider familiar subjects: what might we find by changing our viewpoint, or by looking where others rarely look?
About Charles

Charles Brooks brings a musician’s understanding to a photographer’s eye. Based in Melbourne, Australia, he spent more than two decades as a professional cellist, playing in concert halls around the world, before turning to photography full time in 2016.
His photographs show instruments from a perspective even their players rarely see, and his work has appeared in National Geographic, Der Spiegel, The Telegraph and Die Zeit. In “Architecture in Music,” his two creative worlds meet. See more at charlesbrooks.info.
