Who we are
The State College Photo Club is open to anyone interested in photography. Whatever you like to photograph and whatever camera you use, you’re welcome here, from novice to expert.
Our history
The club was organized in 1947 as the State College Color Slide Club. By then, a handful of local photographers had been shooting color slide film for almost a decade. One of them, Dr. George Johnson, was a visual-aids specialist in Penn State’s School of Agriculture. Seeing how many budding photographers he was working with after World War II, he wrote:
“We must do something more than just ‘record’ shots. We must build more human interest in our slides, make them more artistic and develop more skills in their presentation.”

Nearly 80 years later, that’s still what we’re about.

Monthly meetings with guest presenters, plus extra Zoom workshops for members.
Compete
Competitions judged by guests, panels, or members, with feedback to help you improve.

Friendly discussion and informal photo sharing in our Facebook group and on Instagram.
