Club Competitions
Seven member competitions in the 2026–27 season. Photos are scored by club members, a panel of judges, or a guest judge, followed by a friendly discussion of each image’s strengths and what to try next.

Every element must be your own work. If you replace a sky, it must come from one of your own photographs.
Third Monday, 7–9 pm, in the Boardroom of the Patton Township Municipal Building, 100 Patton Plaza, State College.

How It Works
Everything you need to enter, from preparing your file to the ribbons.
Prepare your images
- Resize to 2000 pixels on the longest side.
- Save as a JPEG in the sRGB color space.
- Keep the file under 2 MB.
- Name it with your full name and the title, for example Pat Smith – Morning Fog.jpg.
Each time a JPEG is saved it is compressed again and loses detail. Keep your full-size edit as a TIFF and save the JPEG only once, as the final step.
Submit
- Up to two images per competition.
- Photos must have been taken within the last two years. Get out and shoot rather than digging deep into your archives.
- Each competition has its own PollUnit submission page. Log in to this website to find the link and submit during the open window.
- You may resubmit an image to later competitions as long as it hasn’t won an SCPC ribbon.
Score
- Scoring also happens in PollUnit, through your website login.
- Any member may score, whether or not they entered, and you may score your own images.
- If you score, score all images. Partial scores are discarded.
- Use a large screen such as a monitor or TV. Phones don’t show image quality accurately.
- Images are scored from 1 to 15.
Ribbons & recognition
- Ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and honorable mention.
- Winners are featured on SCPC’s Facebook and Instagram pages and in our galleries.
- At the end-of-year meeting in September, an outside judge critiques all of last year’s ribbon winners, and the Top 4 receive ribbons.
- Members with the most cumulative points for the year also receive ribbons.
PSA Inter-Club Competitions
We belong to the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and compete in its Inter-Club competitions in the Pictorial Projected Image Division (PID). Three times a year, the club submits six photos chosen by members, competing against seventeen other clubs in twelve states and five countries. We have been steadily rising in the PSA club rankings.
Why compete with other clubs? We’re exposed to different styles of photography and learn what’s considered best in camera clubs around the world.
